Speaking of procrastination (see last post) I realized I had said I would post pictures of Stone House once we went and visited. Well, my two little mini-explorers and I have now been to Stone House twice and we have lots and lots of pictures for you to view. Also you can go to my personal website to see more details about all the awesome stuff we have stumbled across: http://www.rachellbryan.com/
This was Gryphon's first trip and Phoenix's second. As you can see its winter time outside! Stone House is beautiful no matter what the season is!
Phoenix and I came up with our own assumptions about what each room was for. We believe that this window (which is in an interior wall) looked into the kitchen of the house. See the hole in the wall in the background? That connects to a chimney. Thinking wood stove perhaps for either cooking or heating or both.
This if from our first trip there. Green foliage in the windows and Phoenix sporting his shorts and t-shirt show that this one was taken during the summer. My love for old, decaying buildings is starting to wear off on him. That's a trait I don't mind passing on to him.
This is on the other side of the window in the wall. The room in the back there is actually curved on one side and straight everywhere else. I wouldn't let Phoenix go in (much to his dismay) because the tree that is laying across the structure has caused the wall to split and it is now leaning outward. Thinking it wont be too long before it falls over completely.
This is the doorway that has the stove pipe and chimney above it. This leads directly outside, not into another room.
The crazy thing about this building is that no one knows who built it or why its there. I have been tempted to go to the county and do further research on it but haven't found the moment to do so yet. The entire house is built out of basalt except for three red triangular shaped stones on the front of the fire place. Despite my geology classes I am still not sure what type of rock they are. Check out my website for a floor plan of this site as well as notes I put together on the structure its self.
